TOOLKIT: Sitting In On Therapy with Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABBP (Series II)
: Assessing and Treating Suicidal Behaviors
, Session 1
During this session Dr. Linehan’s main goal was to try to understand “Katie’s”, most recent suicidal behavior and what the predictors of those instances were. Dr. Linehan was able to receive a commitment from Katie to stay alive and if she did get an impulse to kill herself she would call Dr. Linehan. Katie also committed to having her father hide all medication in the house. During Dr. Linehan’s re-cap of the session she stated that she is still worried about the impulsivity of Katie’s suicide attempt, though she does feel that during the session she was able to give Katie hope that with the help of Dr. Linehan, together they can help Katie have a life worth living. In the study guide you will find a section on defining a problem behaviorally and the imminent suicide risk assessment worksheet.
