TOOLKIT: Sitting In On Therapy with Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABPP (Series I)
: Getting a new client connected to DBT
, Session 3
This session focuses on “Kelly’s” suicide attempt, which resulted in her admittance to the hospital. Kelly has come right from the hospital to the session and is feeling helpless. Dr. Linehan completes a chain analysis and begins to generate hope for Kelly. Through this process, Dr. Linehan uses collaborative language to communicate hope that Marsha and Kelly can solve problems together. Dr. Linehan begins to work on getting Kelly engaged in problem solving and having hope, which is the key to decreasing the client’s suicide risk. The study guide includes an explanation on what a behavioral analysis is and the steps involved in the analysis. It also goes over the guideline for treating suicidal individuals including: General procedures, pre-crisis planning procedures, and ongoing contingency procedures.
